Oluwafemi Oladapo Oke-Eko who is popularly known by his stage name Slimcase is a Nigerian recording artist and songwriter. The young man was born in Ikorodu area of Lagos state on the 22nd of August 1982. The buzzing Lagosian also grew up in Ikorodu. His foray into the music scene started in 2013 and he is still growing stronger on a daily. Born on the 22nd of August in Ikorodu area of Lagos grew up on the streets, Slimcase rose from a humble background to become the music sensation we know him to be today. He didn’t always have it so rosy, he had to work his way up the hard way. Without a doubt, Slimcase is the new voice of the street. In an exclusive interview he granted Saturday Beats, the Oshozondi singer mentioned that he was once a factory worker, something he did for about 10 years earning a paltry #15,000 monthly. Slimcase claimed to have worked with Dangote and a host of other companies that produce dry gin before he found fame. He has seen his stock rise recently as he bows charges as high as #1 million per show as one of the most sought-after artists in Nigeria currently. His sojourn into the music industry started about three years after he started working as a factory worker. He started off as a rapper but that genre of music wasn’t paying off financially and his career was not growing either so he switched sound. He embraces the ghetto sound, this move proved to be a masterstroke turning him into one of the raves of the moment artistes in Nigeria today. The young man confessed he never in his wildest dreams believed he would be this huge within such as short period of time in the industry. According to him, he has been in the industry for about 7 years starting off as a rap artiste and doing radio-friendly songs. His life and music took a turn for the best when the Shaky Shaku trend came on board. Slimcase biography is a long one and is quite the example of “from grass to grace”. Before he put out his hit song Oshozondi, the guys on the streets of Mushin and Agege areas of Lagos had been dancing the Shaku Shaku dance but there was no beat that blended with their songs. These guys had been on the lookout for a peculiar beat that would be rhythmic with the sound but the likes of Davido and Wizkid had been giving them posh songs till he came on board and released the Oshozondi song and the beat was made purely for the street, it was 100% Shaku Shaku beat. The trend of the new song coupled with the dance step came out at the perfect time and it worked for him. Before he knew it, people started dancing Shaku Shaku to his song and people it began to say all over town that Slimcase is the originator of the Shaku Shaku. After he introduced himself and style of music to the people with Oshozondi, he followed up with Legbelegbe. The song equally proved to be a hit subsequently sustaining the interest people had developed in Slimcase and his music. At last, the hard work of the young man had paid off. It immediately became clear that he was the in-thing, the king of the moment as every artiste in the Nigerian music industry both established and upcoming wanted to jump on a track with him. He sort of became the new King Midas of the industry as every track he voiced was an instant hit. In the same interview with Saturday Beats, he confessed he never imagined the likes of D’banj or Tiwa Savage would feature on the same track as him. He felt he had been pranked when a call came in inviting him to feature on a track with D’banj. He has gone on to feature on several monster hit tracks including featuring on a track with the golden boy of Nigerian music, Wizkid himself. There have been talks from several corners that he is a threat to the likes of Olamide, Lil Kesh and Small Doctor, the singer humbly conceded that he was simply their colleague and not a threat to any of these already established acts. He went on to say that he has only brought a new sound from the street to the main scene of the Nigerian music industry. He believes people just like the way he does his thing because they cannot even decipher if he is singing or just talking in his songs. This sort of makes him unique and acceptable to the Street. The young man is gracious to God for where he is today in his music career and appreciates the fact that every other street style artiste known in the music industry is doing well in their own lane. There have been claims that his songs and the entire Shaky Shaku movement promote immorality, a rumor he was quick to dispel. He emphasized that the songs do not promote immorality at all. The Shaku Shaku songs according to him are street songs from the innermost parts of the ghetto and as such, they only paint what happens in the innermost parts of the ghetto. There has to be someone singing about such happenings and he just happened to be the pioneer of the movement.
