About Emmy Abraham

The Abuja-Nigeria based international gospel music sensation who has been variously described as the god’s whisperer by his fans that is Emmy Abraham is truly a remarkable artist. His versatility as an artist, singer, songwriter, guitarist and worship leader makes Emmy Abraham a truly wonderful experience to enjoy, watching him perform or minister live or listening to his music. His unique voice texture and styles blends R&B, soul, contemporary gospel, reggae, jazz, and soft rock this is as a result of earlier influences on his music by great artists and bands like Maranatha singers, musical youths, new edition, Algreen, Dion, The Winnans, Rescue Acappella, Panam Percy Paul, Dan Seal, Boyz Ii Men, Leon Patillo, Whitney Houston And Commissioned. On many interviews, Emmy Abraham often reiterates his heart in this quote, ‘i have so much love to give, am just looking for who to give. I’ve been blessed to enjoy lots of love and truly understand what it means to be loved’. Born Emmanuel Oche Abraham In Kaduna State, Idoma by tribe from Benue State Nigeria. His father was A Minister at the Trinity Methodist Church Kaduna in Northern Nigeria, and fathered eleven children of whom Emmy Abraham is the eldest child. Growing up was tough and difficult. Emmy had to do a lot of chores and attend a lot of church and school. He joined the local choir of the trinity Methodist church Kaduna at the age of twelve where he discovered his talent for singing and rare flare for writing great musical lyrics. At the age of 15, he would babysit for his neighbor’s kids and do other domestic chores like washing and ironing, running errands, cleaning his house and working in his book and record store for free everyday after school just to learn how to play the guitar! Singing in church and other social gatherings like birthdays and wedding events, Emmy made little money now and then but the joy of singing and playing the guitar convinced him of what he wanted to do in life. It was almost insane for any young man to contemplate singing as a career and parents would frustrate and refuse their children from singing as the industry was almost non-existent and singing was considered as only fitting for failures and loosers. Convinced about what he wanted to do and further assured that god is leading him and his close music friends to be ministers of god through gospel music, in 1995 Emmy Abraham together with his four friends …(Gabriel Okri, Johnson Ajayi Samuel Otaluwa Rip And Ambo James ) came together and formed the band group ‘the glitters’. It is a name they chose because they reflected the goodness, teachings and way of life of god. It was a band of five highly gifted and talented singers and instrumentalists who would develop into a phenomenon all over north western Nigeria and beyond. Their unique Acappella and pure vocal styles was appreciated everywhere they sang which included tours to churches, prisons, school campuses, crusades, conferences, youth camps and concerts. They became very popular, especially among faith based communities but unfortunately never got the media exposure they deserve as the entertainment industry was just blooming into its infancy in faraway Lagos. This led the group’s foray to Lagos where they signed a recording contract with ivory music label and released their debut album in 1996 titled ‘change’ considerable success of the album led to release of their sophomore album titled "tomorrow" in 2000. Emmy wrote more than half of the songs. The group however was dealt a devastating blow when they lost a band member in 2005 in a ghastly motor accident. It was a very trying time and especially difficult as they had grown very close to each other touring the country and sharing deep experiences. This led to the disbandment of the group after 10 years together. In 2005, Emmy Abraham launched his solo career with the debut album titled ‘it’s a new day’. This was shortly after marrying his beautiful and supportive wife Ramatu whom they have a lovely son Isaac. It’s a new day proved very successful and brought considerable fame as a solo artist. Emmy shot two music video for the titled song ‘it’s a new day’ and ‘i love you’ which enjoyed considerable air plays showing especially in the city Abuja and made it to the top 4 of the number music show in Abuja… In 2008, Emmy started working on his second album but didn’t complete it for personal reasons. The demand of family and other business interests was sighted as reasons for the delay of the album completion, but in 2013, Emmy dropped his second album ‘the life’. A 15 track-album produced by Emmy’s longtime friend and producer, Segun Samuel, Aka 'Basegs and newly found friend Mr. Magik. The album featured the renowned tope sax and other artistes as back-up singers. The album captures Emmy’s evolvement as a person and as an artist while remaining true to his depth as a sound Christian and a believer in love. Since its release, Emmy Abraham has travel to Uk and the USA singing in churches and promoting the work. Songs from the album can be regularly heard on radio stations and online, and available in stores and on itunes, Amazon and on cdbaby. Videos for the work are in progress and will soon hit the TV screens.
